This blog post has been expanded and clarified in my book Courtship in Crisis. For months we could talk of little else. After reading it myself, I grew into as big an opponent of dating as you could find. Dating was evil and Courtship, whatever it was, was godly, good and Biblical.
Modern dating seems to be about “finding” the right person for me (as my friend Michael Lawrence has written on this site, “Stop Test-Driving Your Girlfriend“); biblical dating is more about “being” the right person to serve my future spouse’s needs and be a God-glorifying husband or wife.
Biblically, there is no concept of a man taking a woman as his girlfriend! Only a man taking a woman as his wife! We used to be together but we broke up. Are you two in an exclusive relationship? In an exclusive relationship, for a guy to date another girl is to be unfaithful to his girlfriend.
